RUBIA ROSE SOUTHCOTT is an interdisciplinary artist. She uses performance and self-portraiture to communicate narratives reflecting societal attitudes towards death and grief. Through the investigation of mourning traditions, Rubia’s performances present3 different forms of commemoration and preservation. Rubia considers shifting contemporary conceptions of materiality due to the rise of digital image culture. She often operates as the subject of her work, in self-constructed sculptural sets, or amongst found objects. Parts of her work reveal their melancholy romance, while others are far more unsettling in their false cheer and/or latent violence.
