ANTONIO GULLO is a visual artist who works primarily with paint and textiles. The garments are sometimes documented as performance. Antonio’s work disregards the boundaries between media and the preconceived notion of art and clothing as discrete. He patches together second-hand fabric with his painted subjects to spark new associations, reflecting intimate relationships. His practice favours the copying of sources from different media: popular culture or his own archives. His personal idols are venerated with a deep appreciation for the ‘low-brow’. Film, fashion, and the plurality of masculinity, identity, and sexuality are the lenses through which the work is created, enriched by the friction of contradictions.
